We want to thank you very much for giving your hart to all these animals who need help and good homes. We love Vasco and just cannot imagine him not being part of our family anymore.

On walks he uses a brace to protect his bad leg, but at present he gets no medication and still seems to be quite without pain. We observe him closely and if necessary we will of course take other action (the veterinarian was against an operation at this time as he is moving to well).

Wil je niet zomaar een hond, maar een maatje, dan is Shopen je man. Hij wil optrekken met de baas en zal het meest gelukkig zijn met iemand die vaak aanwezig is en (een vriendelijk) leiderschap toont, die weet hoe je veiligheid creëert en die deze mooie hond nog betere manieren kan leren.

Shopen is een knapzak en een zeer mensgerichte hond en past zich verbazingwekkend snel aan. Alsof hij altijd bij je in huis heeft gewoond. Hij is het liefst bij je in de buurt. Naarmate hij langer bij je woont, kan hij meer ontspannen.

Shopen is een goede en grote eter, hij is niet kieskeurig. Hij heeft geen baknijd. Voor iets lekkers is hij altijd te vinden! Hij is zindelijk, binnen is hij rustig. Autorijden geen probleem.  

Shopen kan het prima vinden met andere honden, zowel reuen als teven. Hij is conflict vermijdend. Met de jongste hond speelt hij graag.

Voor de rondlopende kippen in de tuin had hij te grote belangstelling maar hij begreep snel dat hij deze dieren met rust moest laten. Hij kan dus samen met de kippen los in de tuin, maar uiteraard wordt Shopen nog wel in de gaten gehouden. Wat katten betreft, dit weten we niet maar wij verwachten dat hij zich aanpast aan de regels in de roedel.

Hij loopt in het algemeen rustig aan de lijn, maar wanneer iets zijn belangstelling wekt, kan hij opeens hard trekken. Dit zijn de oefeningen waar zeker nog mee geoefend kan worden.

Shopen is een sensitieve hond en reageert sterk op stem en handgebaren. Een “Uh” is vaak voldoende om aan te geven dat iets niet mag. Nog beter werken natuurlijk de complimenten wanneer hij iets goed doet: komen wanneer je roept, niet naar de kippen kijken, rustig mee lopen, enz…. Hij leert echt heel snel!

Met een zachte en consequente baas zal hij het meest gelukkig zijn. Hij voegt zich makkelijk naar zijn omgeving en een bench is niet geschikt voor hem. Tot nu toe is hij nooit alleen, we verwachten dat hij dat kan maar het liefst is hij bij zijn mens. Shopen is echt geweldig!

Shopen’s story is banal and sad – in the spring of 2020, he was found in a city near Moscow with a gunshot wound to his right hind paw. The paw was shot through, the impact of a bullet break the tibia and damaged the joint. For several days, while he was hiding from his killers, the wound became infected and severely swollen. The boy was in hellishpain, but he just cried silently. The paw was collected from the fragments, the doctors miraculously saved the limb. After the operation, the dog was delivered to the shelter. Shopen actively uses the paw when walking, but if he thinks that he needs to hurry, he squeezes it and jumps on three paws. Sits also a little on the side. In the fall, all metal structures were removed from the paw. There are high chances that the paw will completely heal and it will not lame at all. 

Shopen is a young and handsome dog. He is about 2-3 years old (we believe that he was born in 2018). He has a lightsoft coat, fluffy tail, beautiful head with an unusual color combination and very kind eyes. Shopen is not big – about 55 cm at the withers and weighs about 35 kg.

Shopen is very charming and friendly, despite the misfortune that happened to him, he did not lose faith in people. For a treat, he is ready to love everyone, sell his soul, learn any commands. His curious freckled nose is diligently seeking out tasty treats from volunteers when they come for him on a walk. He walks well on a leash, he is very glad for attention, like any inhabitant of the shelter.

Like most of the inhabitants of the shelter, Shopen is unpretentious in food. He eats dry food, canned food, and porridge with meat. No allergies have been identified. Shopen gets along well with female dogs of all breeds. He can also find a common language with the male dogs. No obvious aggression towards cats was found, but shows interest. Easily makes contact with strangers. Small children can scare him a little if they are very pushy. Walks normally on a leash. Teaches basic commands. Car rides without problems. Loves toys.

Shopen lives in an enclosure, so it is difficult to predict how he will behave at home. However, he does not have a predisposition to destructive actions and, with enough attention and length of walks, he will most likely stay at home without problems. Initially, training to the toilet on the street will be required, but, most likely, there shouldn’t be fundamental difficulties. Shopen will suit both a private house and an apartment. Ideally, a family without small children (since he is active and does not always feel his size, it is better for older ones) and cats, leading an active lifestyle.
