If I am to describe Jake with just one word, I would say “kind”. As many other dogs Jake came out of the blue. In a collar, very thin and very hungry. He ate 3 servings of food straight away and drank almost a bucket of water. There were some traces of wounds on his muzzle, wounds from other stray dogs as, most probably, he tried to be part of a pack but looks like without any success. Most probably he was chased by other dogs and people. Jake did not reciprocate with aggression, just went on. It seems Jake used to live with people but not at home, in a dog house or in some enclosure. Probably he was taken as a guard dog as he is big but he is not the one as he turned out to be very kind. Looks like he “lost his job” because of that. Jake has a wonderful character, very playful and joyful. Very kind and gentle, puts his head on a lap to be petted. Jake knows how to behave, learns quickly and adopts to all house rules. He is doing his best to please his owner, not to disappoint. Jake is a very clever boy and easy to train. He gets along well with men, women and kids. He is now in a foster family where they have 2 kids of 3,5 y.o. and 4 months old. He is tolerant to all games, does not react to loud sounds or running (but might join in). A dog with a very balanced character. We can recommend Jake for a family with kids from 2 y.o. He will be a perfect friend. He does not have any aggression at all. He puts up with anything even if he does not quite like it, for example get into a bath tub or take the pill. He never snaps back. During the first week in the foster family the girl of 3,5 y.o. was jealous and could pinch or smite him. Jake was enduring all that silently, just looked bewildered as if saying, “come on, let us be friends”. Then they really became friends and it is clear now that his self-control is exemplary. The kid can sit on him, lie on him, embraces him tightly, wipes him with tissues. The infant pulls him by the ears and whiskers. Jake just puts up with all that silently. If he gets enough of that he simply walks away. But he never growls or shows his anger in any way. Jake gets well with other dogs, both boys and girls. The video shows him with totally strange dogs and he is ready to play straight away. There is another dog, a girl, in the foster family. At first she was growling at him but Jake was silent and waited till she accepted him. Now they sleep together on a sofa. Some time later family friends came over with a small dog. Although Jake was already considering the apartment his own territory, he accepted the guest girl very nicely, was following her at first and sniffing and later on was just minding his own business. There is also a cat in the foster family. Since Jake is young, he offers the cat to play together but the cat spits and sometimes shows the claws. Jake does not quarrel with her at all. He can stay home alone and also with the other dog. We have not tried yet to leave him alone for a long time but several hours were OK.
Jake rides well in a car, does not get sick. During his first trip he was a bit nervous but then calmed down and stayed relaxed and quiet. His second trip was better and we think that a couple of rides more and he will be perfect in a car. Jake got used to walk out 3 times a day. The second time can be several minutes, just to do his stuff quickly. Jake is now learning to walk on a leash. He is now good at walking on a choke collar. He knows how not to pull, stop and follow the owner. Jake is a wonderful dog. He will be glad to run around with you when out and after that he will be lying next to you or embracing you. He is very gentle and loves to be petted and cuddled. Jake is such a good boy! He is looking forward to getting his real family so that after all his wanderings and sufferings he finds his loving parents. We would recommend a private house for him.
